Day 2 | Florida Trail 17 miles 1/1/18
Up at 6 am had some coffee and granola. Ready to hike some more of this swamp, haha yeah that’s what I was thinking until about a mile in and I just sunk mentally and phiscally, the swamp waters have suction cups or holes that pull you in every 20 ft or less. Your grabbing onto everything you can to keep your balance and yet you still stumble.
That’s how the day has been for the past 12 miles, knee deep water that is like having 5 pound weights added to your ankles and a rope tied around them with someone pulling them away. Picking up my feet hurt every step the sand shaping to my foot and preventing me from fully strech hurt more and more all I need is a campsite so I can rest. Oak Hill camp my lifesaver on the right of the trail I see the sign and I am filled with joy that it’s time to relax. Time to eat and dry my feet!!! Going to start walking again in 30 minutes I tell myself.
1 hour later I’m walking in the swamp again being pulled down my muddy holes.
You know what makes this so worth it and not a waste of time like some people do say. Is I saw a bird that was kind enough not to fly off while I took its picture, saw flowers of all kinds yellow, pink, and white.
